I am starting with my favorite festival Onam. It falls on the Malayalam Month Chingam( August September.
Onam:… Onam is the greatest festival of Keralites. Onam is related with the King Mahabali who ruled Kerala at a time His parents are Virochana and Devamba. His grandfather Prahlada who instilled in him strong sense of righteousness and devotion. He expanded his empire the entire world. Including the heaven. Devas after the defeat from Bali went to Mahavishnu and requested him to regain the heaven.
In heaven the Maha bali started aswamedha yaga with the advice of Sukracharya. Mahavishnu took the avatar of Vamana a small Brahmin boy approached bali and requested to grant land of three paces. Despite of of the advise of his guru Bali granted this boon. Vamana grew big measured the earth for first pace and heaven for the second pace.Vamana bowed his head and given the third pace to Vamanaon his head. Mahabali visits on Onam Day. So they wear new clothes, go to the temple and prepare a very good Lunch.

Ingredients
Red Rice 1/4 cup
Milkmaid 1tin
Milk 2cups
Cashew Nuts 2tbsp
Cardamom Powder 1/2tsp
Method
Wash the rice, add the rice in boiling milk and cook..
The rice should cook well in the milk.
Add the condensed milk and mix well.
Add roasted cashew nuts and cardamom powder

On Onam day people wash the rooms and courtyard and put flour rangoli (it is called attapookalam)
There is a saying in Malayalam “Kanam vittu Onam unnanam”which means we should have the Thiruvonam lunch even if we have to sell all our properties. They give that mush importance to the lunch on the Thiruvonam day.. There is a song “Maveli nadu vanidum kalam manushaellarum onnu pole“ all people are equal when Maveli ruled the country.
